Welcome to Hastings Early Music Festival 2017

Sound Of Times traces classical music back through time, from Beethoven to Bach and beyond into Medieval times. Launching at Hastings’ new concert hall, Opus Theatre, the concerts feature internationally acclaimed musicians, many with an East Sussex connection and from Glyndebourne’s Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

The Festival’s aim is to venture beyond traditional classical music boundaries, bridging the gap between audiences and performers. One of the ways we will do this is by simply talking more and inviting audiences into the players’ creative world. Open rehearsals and pre-concert events ‘artists in conversation’ will create the space to explore the composers’ fascinating lives and give insights as to why some of the best loved classical music today has stood the test of time.

The musicians play on historical instruments, some over 300 years old, recreating a beautiful and authentic sound world from the composers’ time. The concerts also explore both musical and theatrical elements with guest actors.
