Hastings Early Music Festival presents an evening of baroque arias and instrumental music in a Concert by Candlelight. Internationally-acclaimed opera singer, soprano Anna Dennis joins HEMF Baroque, the Festival Ensemble.
Described by the Times as a “delectable soprano and a serene, ever-sentient presence”, Anna Dennis has performed at the Royal Opera House, ENO, La Scala, Göttingen and Aldeburgh. Concert work includes Berlin Philharmonie, Lincoln Center, Royal Albert Hall, Gulbenkian Lisbon, and Sydney Opera House.
HEMF Baroque features the UK’s leading period instrument specialists with musicians from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, English Baroque Soloists/John Eliot Gardiner and Glyndebourne Opera. All players enjoy international performing careers and in the UK, regularly appear at the Proms, Wigmore Hall, South Bank, all the major opera houses and on BBC Radio 3.
Performing on authentic period instruments. They will perform an exquisite programme of French Baroque arias by Rameau and Couperin alongside music by Leclair and Purcell.

3.30-4.30pm Open rehearsal: Watch behind the scenes as the musicians prepare for their performance
The Festival aims to venture beyond traditional classical music boundaries, bridging the gap between audiences and performers through Artists in Conversation and Open Rehearsals. We hear the musicians talk about their approach to the music, how they develop their interpretation and explore the composers sound world on historical instruments.
